Friday, October 09, 2009 3:43:52 AM This is at least the second attempt this artist has made with this type of work. He had an earlier attempt with growing a human ear on a lab rat and surgically attaching it to his arm with a microphone beneath the skin. I know this because I have worked with another artist that builds Stellarc's robots. |

Thursday, October 08, 2009 5:43:35 PM Hmmmn, you could implant his own ear if it got severed, to main the blood supply and whatnot, but they also may have used a biologically inert ear-shaped mesh as a template to grow cells upon to construct an ear-shaped replacement (like they did on the back of that mouse a few years back). Anyone who thinks you can grow stem cells into real body parts, please go to your doctor and ask him to grow you a new head. If you can read, start with hox (homeotic selector) genes (drosophila patterning would be a good place to start), then move on to epigenetics and protein and mRNA localisation/gradient formation. Then realise that this will probably not even happen in your lifetime. |
