Friday, October 30, 2009 8:44:14 PM Haha! I was looking at the professor speaking in that classroom, thinking to myself, he looks alot like the Nature of Math professor from my college, and that looks like the room that I took General Chemistry in. And turns out it is! I probably was walking by when he was lecturing too, since I have a lab next door at that time. This prof is a such an awesome and kind Christian man, really funny guy too. Everyone tells me to take him for my math requirement but I can't because I'm required to take calculus instead for my major :[ He teaches at Biola University, by the way. |

Friday, October 30, 2009 2:19:04 AM Um... something like how O2's bonds are broken in the atmosphere by ultraviolet light, and that's how the Ozone (O3) is eventually formed? That's my guess, ultraviolet light breaking H2O's hydrogen bonds...
So you're saying that sunlight breaks up a water molecule in lets say, 1 OH molecule and 1 unbound hydrogen atom (breaking hydrogen bonds)? I think you should revise your chemistry/physics books a little, your talking about some sort of decomposition of water; evaporation of water is just water molecules escaping the water, at the surface. This happenes because water molecules collide and transfer energy, sometimes a molecule, at the surface, receives enough energy to escape the liquid. The rate at which this occurs depends greatly a (partial) vapor pressures, temperature etc. Sorry for the lecture..... |
