Okay I wasn't clear, but I just meant the first part, not that I *always* give "the people" (meaning civilians I suppose, just everybody who is not a cop, not implying cops are not people obviously) the benefit of the doubt over cops. I'm just tired of people jumping to the defense of the police without hearing both sides, since they are just as fallible as the people they are meant to be protecting/serving whatever. I think we can at least agree on that with no issues. See you at the next poostorm post.

Huh? Are you joking? As far as I can tell, had I not used the word 'pigs', this argument wouldn't even be happening, so really, I apologize for using a stupid term in jest. Excuse me.
That's only part of it. Even if that's ignored, those two sentences have very different meanings. You're creating a false dichotomy by arguing that the only two possibilities are assuming that the police are wholly in the right or assuming that the people are wholly in the right (which also entails assuming that the police are not people, of course). It's akin to watching a USA football match and saying that the ball is either inside one 20-yard zone or inside the other 20-yard zone. |

It takes 3 of them to overpower 1 woman ... I feel so safe now knowing that great men like these are out there protecting me from murderers and rapists.
They obviously have more sense than you. If you want to overpower someone with as few injuries as possible, you use as many people as you can. |

Cops *should* be more trustworthy than your average citizen. If not something is either very wrong with your police force, or, you have a fantastically benign society.
Cops are also placed in situations average citizens won't be in, so they need to be wiser, more trustworthy, faster, stronger, tougher, calmer and just generally better. Which is a tall order, since they're people. Some of them fail to live up to it, unsurprisingly. I used to talk with a copper whose job included watching child porn repeatedly. Someone has to, partly because there might be evidence in it that would locate the abuser and partly because someone will have to give evidence in court. How can you do a job like that and remain sane? How do you not end up battering the scum you have to deal with? I'd rather work in a sewer than be a cop. At least the poo in a sewer is only physical. |

i just plain dont like cops. theyre citizens with guns and a license to use them whenever they want. thats a recipe for disaster. they abuse their power knowing no one can do anything about it because theyre cops! whos gonna argue with a cop? not all cops are bad, but ...a whole lot are. |

What? Those mean the same thing. Cops don't get the benefit of the doubt. I don't believe the cops over the regular people based on nothing more than them being cops. You simultaneously don't agree and don't not agree with this at the same time. The internet isn't the best place to argue over semantics because tone has a lot to do with it, but I really don't see where your problem is with this.
